I am reading the Aubrey Maturin novels of Patrick O’Brian again for the second time, I am up to the seventh of twenty. Fascinating tales of naval life during the Napoleonic wars.
Well worth reading even if O’Brian could write paragraphs longer than some authors make chapters. Better than the Hornblower books and a bit heavier than Alexander Kent’s Bolitho novels. Of course O’Brian wrote his biggest work of fiction in creating his own life story, to be forgiven though for giving us such a series of books.
